Here's Maggie, working on homework in my classroom at the end of the school day. She is brought to my classroom from her campus each afternoon, thanks to the school's generosity in bussing the primary kids here to the elementary campus. She does her homework and eats a snack as soon as she arrives. We will be glad to have a break from homework for the summer.
Sadie's 8th grade awards assembly was this morning. Keith and I attended and watched with pride as she received a medal for 1st place in UIL Spelling, a medal for her spelling team placing at the competition, a Citizenship award, and a Perfect Attendance award. This is the first year she has been eligible to receive Perfect Attendance, and we were all surprised, since we hadn't realized she hasn't missed a single day of school this year. She was the only girl in the 8th grade to have Perfect Attendance! As I sat there with Keith, I couldn't help but be a little teary and reflective at what great kids we have. Our efforts at parenting have been our best efforts, despite all of our ups and downs over the last 14 years, and it is wonderful to see Sadie blossom, bloom, and grow each year. "Once upon a time, the world was sweeter than we knew; everything was ours, how happy we were then; but somehow once upon a time, never comes again." This verse from the song "Once Upon a Time" seems so appropriate as our children grow up.
