Our church family...

Here are some photos from some recent church events we have attended.  Our church family enriches our lives in so many ways.  I can't imagine trying to survive what life throws at us without them.  The girls have both been raised in this church their entire lives; what a joy it is to have people who care so much, right here in our hometown.  We love being Methodist; one of my favorite parts from my favorite book, "To Kill a Mockingbird", describes Jem being upset because his father, Atticus, won't "play football for the Methodists".  Unfortunately, our group of Methodists don't have a football team!

We have chores...

Sadie and Maggie have regular chores.  Sadie usually gets hers done without any problems at this point.  Often, she is super busy these days with homework, play practice, and church activities, so sometimes I help her with her chores.
Maggie, on the other hand, does her chores very unwillingly.  She finds housework distasteful, and completes her work with an unwilling spirit and an uncheerful countenance, (and it shows).

Weekends

Our weekends are something we look forward to all week.  Sadie was busy this weekend with UIL and One-Act Play events, all day Saturday and Sunday.  Sadie and I did get to watch the Oscars on Sunday night, which was lots of fun.
Maggie loves her weekends.  She drew this funny picture on Friday afternoon at school; I didn't pay much attention to it until this morning, when I realized what it was all about.
The title at the top is "for two days", and the left side shows the typical school day, as she sees it.  I assume the person saying blah blah is a teacher.  The right side shows Coke, which she only gets to drink on the weekends.
Rainy days and Mondays always get her down.

Sewing for Girl Scouts

Maggie's Girl Scout projects and events have kept my sewing machine busy recently.  This Saturday's Thinking Day event required a Mexican skirt;  Maggie's troop will be highlighting Mexican traditions.  I sewed this skirt for Maggie, and a matching dress for her American Girl doll.   I used only fabrics and trim I already had; this was the most Mexican-ish I could conjure up.  She loves matching her doll.

Texas Dinosaurs.....at the Ft.Worth Museum

The Ft. Worth Museum has a wonderful dinosaur exhibit; these dinosaurs were located in Hood County, Texas.   Lots of fun, interactive stuff to do, and really nice dinosaur skeleton displays.   I was impressed!

Titanic

Spent the day yesterday at the Titanic Artifact Exhibit in Ft. Worth.  I thought it was very educational and also a good opportunity to reflect on how important every day is, and not taking time with loved ones for granted.

Making Tea Cakes...

Maggie's grandmother brought over the ingredients to make tea cakes this week; tea cakes are a Southern roll-and-cut out cookie; Maggie's great-great-great grandmother was an awesome tea-cake baker.  Tea cakes with frosting are true comfort food.
